134: When You Have the Diagnosis, Look for a Better One

Successful diagnosis of disease requires pattern recognition of data in conjunction with patient demographics, knowledge of disease processes and epidemiology, and the practitioner’s experience. Availability bias is the human tendency to rely on information that comes readily to mind when making decisions. This lecture looks at three cases where the initial diagnosis was not the correct diagnosis and gives the practitioner pearls on working through more difficult diagnoses.
